How to use this

Four numbers you likely already have

  1. Time the task once, on an ordinary day, and use that as labor hours. Round up a little if the job usually runs long.
  2. Add payroll taxes, workers compensation insurance, and benefits to the wage to get the burdened rate, or open the small calculator under that field and let it do the addition.
  3. Pull materials cost from a recent invoice, then apply the markup you already use. If you don't have one yet, pick a number and test it against a few real invoices before you commit to it.
  4. Get overhead per billable hour from your own books: total monthly overhead, divided by the billable hours your techs produce in a month. Set the margin you want, and the price fills in above.

These numbers are illustrative. Every shop's wages, overhead, and material costs are different, so run your own figures before you put a price on your board.
